The bread and butter pickle is a type of brine that is sweeter than the dill pickles. It is also known as sweet and sour pickle. The bread and butter pickles have a higher concentration of sugar. These pickles are served with main course dishes. But they are part of main course dishes. These pickles are often used in sandwiches, hamburgers and potato salad.
People sometimes confuse bread and pickles with sweet pickles. However, there is a difference in terms of ingredients. Gherkins spices such as cinnamon, clove and pepper with the vinegar. However, use bread and pickles mustard, turmeric, onion and vinegar and sugar mixture.
Ingredients used in the manufacture of bread and pickles are
1. Great fresh cucumber (6 No.)
2. Onions (4 nos)
3. 5 cups ice cubes
4. ¼ cup salt (to taste)
5. 2 cups white vinegar
6. ¾ cup sugar
7. ¾ teaspoon turmeric
8. 1 teaspoon celery seed
9. 1 teaspoon mustard seed
The recipe is as follows
1. Wash cucumbers. Cut the cucumber wash. Then cut thin slices washed onions. Place cucumbers and onions in a bowl and add salt to the mixture. Put ice cubes in the mixture. Let mixture stand for 2 to 3 hours. Change the ice so times as necessary. Put the vegetables in salt and soft water mixture and thus accelerates mixture. The process of making pickles are accelerating.
2. After 1 hour, drain the salt water and wash vegetables in cold water.
3. Add celery seed, turmeric, mustard seeds, white vinegar and sugar in a bowl big. Heat the mixture to a boil. Stir continuously until then. Cook for about 3 minutes.
4. Sterilize the jars by boiling storage jar and their lids in water for about 15 minutes. This allows the contamination and ensures longer life of the brine.
5. Place cucumbers and onions in sterilized jars. Add the Mix vinegar and sugar pots. A thin wooden or metal spoon can run into the mixture to be sure to fill the vacuum or air bubbles trapped inside the jars. Leave about an inch of space at the top of the bottle.
6. Seal the jars immediately. The rubber bands can be used to secure the lids of the jars instead. Wipe rims of the eyelids and the outer surface of jars with a damp cloth to remove any food particles. Additional treatment is necessary. This is done by boiling the jars in a water bath or a bath for about 5 minutes.
7. After jars cool, store in a cool dark place for at least 2 months.
8. After this waiting period, the brine is ready to be consumed.
Thus, one can see that the bread and pickles is like any brine, except that the change in ingredients. The flavor of this brine is so tempting.
