Glass Chick

Ask any animal they associate with Easter, and it is most likely a rabbit or chicken. For me it's a mouse!

When I was eight, my mother decided to put in an Easter lunch. The whole family was scattered after the Christmas holidays when the first meeting of the entire clan, our family of five and four grandparents for a while.

The week before Easter was a perfect spring E map. The flowers were blooming of the trees in our garden and a small conch crocuses and daffodils lined the path to the Pavilion. I was chosen to pick daisies painted egg cups water my brothers are reluctant to search for other flowers in the vases.

My mother had an apron and set to work to prepare the Passover festival, a huge leg of lamb and cooking local specialties, Simnel cake and my favorite: warm scones.

On Holy Saturday, all helped set up a special table with candles and colored towels and fluffy chicks perched decorated the room. However, in the sides, where an ordinary Easter egg wrapped in a shiny silver foil, finished with a ribbon tied with a ribbon sat, there was nothing!

After much serious deliberation I had the task of organizing the donations of Easter. They were hidden until the "big reveal" on Sunday Easter morning.

When my mother gave me money to execute my plan of sweets, I had trouble making a decision. Any family that had chocolate for Lent, exciting and challenging for me, horrible and irritating to my brothers who fought for the distance. I was consumed with the desire and the feeling of anticipation 40 days of abstinence would.

What should I do? Trust my favorite time? Variations on a theme? Above all, it would not be predictable. I wanted to create something memorable.

Balancing a low branch until the end of our garden, beaten a day of inspiration: I'd like to make trees in tubes Coffee table towel to attribute to me the nest egg carton full of chocolate eggs and sweets.

Could make four or five so we can all share and enhance their license branches and flowers. This is exactly what I did.

Although he had several meetings with colored fabrics, silver, Maps and brushes to complete the tree, I loved finally multi-colored leaves chocolate eggs covered in cheese straw.

On the night before Easter Sunday, I found the perfect place to hide, covered with a tea towel on a chair against the wall in the dinning room. Then I went to bed and restless sleep until the sun shone through the window of my room and I wake in the morning of Easter Sunday.

After serving in the local church instead of age, milk chocolate fantasies largely in motion prayers, I ran home, eager to present the tree chocolate eggs to the breakfast table in a moment of high drama.

When lunch was served to my brother called the family in the dining room. Everyone was sitting and waiting patiently, as I told His triumphant "da" and raised the lid of my creations.

However, the seizures were those of admiration than I expected, the drama is not the kind I expected. The trees were in tatters, torn leaves, straw in all directions and eggs, while unpacking, half eaten.

Fearing sabotage doubled my brothers, who refused, but then each accuses the other, before my father came to suggest that the culprit might be a mouse.

My hard-of-the grandfather of view it is a call to arms, standing up, brandishing a fork and my mother was convinced that was part of a number of rodents in the execution of his house, causing him to scream and drop the sauce.

Followed, of course, angry, and insurance, apologies and, possibly, restoring peace and calm.

A After drying my tears and my father had searched in vain for a visitor pink nose with whiskers coated with chocolate, my mother laid the eggs intact in cocktail glasses and ornaments are kept rest to join them.

Only after a delicious meal and much sympathy I feel better, helped by the sweet taste of the first afternoon, good chocolate.

In these days I'll take the chocolate temptations until the last minute, my children, representing a greater threat, I think the mouse!
