The Blanton Museum of Art is part of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Texas at Austin with a permanent collection of substantial range and depth. This is the main art museum in Austin, with collections and exhibits on a par with art museums throughout the country. Positioned as a bridge between the academic community and the general public Austin, Blanton is committed to building the finest collections possible, being a vital resource for teaching in a wide range of disciplines, and to make their offerings available for art lovers of all ages.
Originally known as the Art Museum of the University, the Blanton Museum dates back to 1963 when a new building for the department art gallery of the designated area. The museum began collecting seriously Blaton throughout the 1960s and 1970s, winning a large group of important paintings from a donation deprived of the famous author James Michener. The Blanton has played a leadership role early in the promotion and preservation of Latin American art, based on the donation about two hundred paintings and 1,200 drawings from the collection of John and Barbara Duncan.
